Pure Water San Diego
NEW WATER THAT IS PURE WATER
Pure Water San Diego is a pure stroke of brilliance ― to transform waste water into a new, reliable, drought-proof source of water. When the program is completed it will provide 30 percent of San Diego’s water. As a subconsultant to Stantec, our team provided design and communication services for the first phase of the project, the North City Advanced Water Purification Facility and improvements to increase capacity at the existing North City Water Reclamation Plant. Team members designed the architecture and site plans for a campus of building that included: a 56,000 SF Operations and Maintenance Building, six process buildings and one pump station.
The Operations and Maintenance Building’s iconic design symbolizes the City’s commitment to advanced technology and water
independence. The design concept expresses the water processing functions such as water sourcing and filtration phases. Building spaces were developed to be functional and pleasant for the maintenance, operations and lab staff to work. A public lobby, plaza, conference room and other touring spaces were designed in the building and throughout the site so that visitors could learn about the technological process of water purification, as well as its value to the future of San Diego. Our team also worked closely with the engineering team to develop seven other buildings that process, pump and filter the water. Super graphics labeled the function of each process building so that visitors can better understand how the purification process works when touring the site.
